First, I’d like to say that this is a great theme, thank you for developing it.

I’d like to add some large ‘next’ and ‘previous’ buttons at the top and bottom of posts that have been paginated (one long post divided into multiple pages). I’ve looked at several plugins but they want me to edit the php files; I’d like to avoid this if possible.

I’ve just installed the ‘page-links plus’ plugin to see if it can give me what I want, but it has shown a possible issue on the theme files as follows:-

    System Status:
    PHP Version: 5.4.45-0+deb7u2
    WordPress Version: 4.5.2
    Pagination Function: Not Found
You’ll want to verify your theme uses the wp_link_pages function, which is the preferred, best-practices WP pagination function.

Usually, this function appears in the single.php template, but it might also be elsewhere. If your theme doesn’t include this function, you’ll want to swap it in.
    Page Links Version: 2.4

Can you advise me about the bast way to achieve what I want please?

    Thanks, Phil.

    Hi Phil,

Sorry, I can not help you. Although the plugin work properly (it does not), any solution for what you want need to modify php files. The theme uses the function the plugin says missing (wp_link_pages()) in several places. However, although the plugin detect function, you could not put those buttons where you want: The plugin does not create its own paginations in places that the user chooses, only modifies the wp_link_pages() function theme.

In any case, the plugin does not work properly because the same message appears on themes such as: Twenty Sixteen, Twenty Fifteen or Twenty Fourteen also make use of wp_link_pages() function.

I’ve found another plugin that may do what I want but I have to replace the following lines in the loop.php code. As you know, this theme doesn’t use a loop.php so can you tell me where to find the lines of code that I need to replace?

    The plugin is: Simple Pagination

and the instructions say to do this:-

In your theme, open the theme files where you’d like pagination to be used. You need to find calls to next_posts_link() and previous_posts_link() and replace them.

Usually this is the loop.php file.

You would replace those two lines with this:

    <?php if(function_exists(‘wp_simple_pagination’)) {
    } ?>
